The ask

No City cash. Three things.

With these in place, CSF takes the proposal to Minth Group for a $150,000 founding sponsorship and handles delivery from there.

  1. A planning partnerName a City liaison and join CSF in planning the first year.
  2. Access to City spacesDefine the recreation space and event support the City can contribute, approved in writing.
  3. A preliminary letter of supportContingent on funding, so CSF can approach Minth with a credible local partnership. See a sample letter ↓

01 · Why Gadsden

Good for residents. Good for the City's plans.

Minth's arrival brings more than 1,300 planned jobs to Gadsden. This is a chance to shape a private investment around the City's own recreation priorities, before the funding request is made.

Fits GROW Gadsden

The City's master plan treats quality of life and placemaking as drivers of economic development. This puts that into practice every week.

  • More people using parks, trails, and the riverfront
  • City-approved walking routes and outdoor class space
  • A reason to visit the new Gadsden Athletic Center once it opens

Welcomes Minth's new workforce

Minth is bringing more than 1,300 jobs to Gadsden, and many of those employees and their families will be new in town. This gives them an easy way to show up next to their neighbors from day one.

  • Coworker walking groups and relay teams at the big days
  • Family invites to every big day
  • A Minth liaison helps us pick times that fit shifts
  • Always voluntary, never tracked one by one

Free for residents

Weekly classes, walks, and workout videos are free to enrolled residents, so cost isn't what keeps people home.

  • Beginner-friendly, with options for older adults
  • Qualified instructors, not volunteer-dependent
  • Help with fees for specialty events

How it fits with Parks & Rec

Fills gaps. Doesn't compete.

  • Adult fitness and family activities only. No youth leagues or tournaments in year one.
  • The City picks times and places that complement its calendar and protect established programs.
  • The City keeps control of its facilities and calendar. Its contribution is limited to what it approves in writing.
  • CSF handles the workload: registration, instructors, contracts, purchasing, and reporting.

02 · The year

Something every week. Something big every season.

A dependable weekly schedule gives residents a reason to come back. The big days give them something to circle on the calendar.

05 · What we need from the City

A defined package of access and support.

Here's the full request for City review. The golf clinic at Gadsden Country Club is arranged with the club directly and paid from the event budget, as are specialist event providers, unless someone contributes them.

1

Indoor class space

One accessible facility for 88 two-hour bookings: one morning and one evening each week across 44 active weeks. That's 176 access hours.

2

Parks and walking routes

Approved walking routes and park space for seasonal outdoor classes, with permit treatment and group conditions spelled out.

3

Community events

A downtown 2K route with a Broad Street finish, including street closures and traffic support. The Venue or 210 at the Tracks for an 8-hour Gadsden Grind™ booking on Lunar New Year weekend. Coosa access and route review. Any available security, custodial, and emergency services.

4

Equipment and storage

An inventory of equipment the City already has, plus secure storage, loading access, and custody arrangements.

5

Coordination and outreach

A designated liaison, listings on the City calendar, and introductions to venue managers, providers, vendors, and supporting sponsors.

Competitive Sports Foundation

Sponsorship request, budget, registration, instructors, provider contracts, event collections, and reports.

City of Gadsden

Approves access, permits, and agreed services. Each joint event gets a named operating lead and written assignments.

Minth Group (proposed)

Founding sponsorship and a liaison for employee outreach. Funding is not yet confirmed.

Producing events together doesn't mean splitting costs or revenue equally. Each event's terms get written down.

06 · The budget

What City access is worth.

The same $150,000 Minth request goes much further when the City contributes access. Neither version depends on extra event income.

$17,600–$35,200What the indoor bookings alone would cost at $100 an hour: $17,600 with no minimum, $35,200 with a 4-hour minimum per booking.
$20,000More for residents when the City contributes access: $6,000 for events, $6,000 for equipment and storage, $2,000 for outreach, $2,000 for fee assistance, and $4,000 in contingency.

The paid-access column shows what changes if the City charges for space. It's an illustration, not a facility quote or a promise of the same program. Even $20,000 wouldn't cover the 4-hour-minimum cost, so full delivery needs the City access package or negotiated terms. Otherwise CSF revises the scope before committing.

07 · Who we are

Before launch: written access terms, approved contracts, insurance, and a funded cash-flow plan. During the year: quarterly reports on what was delivered, who took part, and how funds and City contributions were used.

08 · Next steps

Here's how we get from yes to launch.

  1. Before we meetThe City identifies candidate spaces and dates, who approves what, likely fees, storage options, and any sponsor or vendor terms.
  2. Planning meetingWe turn those answers into a contribution schedule: what's contributed, discounted, or charged, including setup, cleaning, security, cancellations, and makeup dates.
  3. Letter of supportAn authorized preliminary letter, contingent on funding, naming CSF as the program operator.
  4. Minth Group requestCSF takes the $150,000 proposal to Minth, then finalizes payment timing, venue terms, provider pricing, insurance, licensing, and recognition.
  5. LaunchAbout 8 weeks of startup, then 44 active weeks. Quarterly reports and a month-nine review shape year two.

Make the letter easy

We drafted a sample letter of support. It's a starting point the City can edit, put on letterhead, and sign once it's comfortable with the terms.

Let's talk

Let's give Gadsden a year it'll remember.

We'd love to sit down, walk through the access list together, and hear what works for the City's calendar.

The fine printDelivery, money, and sources

Where things stand

  • This is a proposal. Minth funding and City access are not yet confirmed. The program name would be used with Minth's agreement, and no City or Minth endorsement is implied.
  • Quantities, capacities, age guidance, rates, staffing hours, and budget lines are planning assumptions, to be confirmed through recruitment, venue review, and provider pricing.
  • The Gadsden Athletic Center is projected to open in fall 2027 ↗. The Gadsden Grind™ uses The Venue or 210 at the Tracks in the meantime.
  • If the full Coosa race can't be delivered within approved resources, a supervised river recreation day replaces it, with the sponsor's agreement.
  • City in-kind contributions are recorded separately from sponsor cash and valued only on a documented basis.

Delivery and safety

  • A CSF program coordinator (about 20 to 25 hours a week on average, reviewed against workload) oversees enrollment, scheduling, contracts, communication, reporting, and the app. Qualified instructors and specialist providers deliver the activities. Essential delivery doesn't depend on volunteers.
  • Each event plan covers first aid, emergency access, weather thresholds, incident reporting, and who can pause or cancel. Screening and child-protection procedures apply where relevant.
  • A broker confirms insurance for the actual classes, vendors, and events, with certificates and additional-insured terms where required.

Money and records

  • CSF proposes one collection process for event sponsorships, booth fees, and participant fees. City taxes, permits, licenses, and City-owned concessions stay with the City. Vendors keep their own sales unless agreed otherwise.
  • CSF proposes keeping net event proceeds after expenses, refunds, and agreed City reimbursements. No City revenue share is presumed. Terms are negotiated before funds are accepted, and event accounts are reconciled within 30 days where invoices allow.
  • Contingency covers unplanned costs with approval and tracking. CSF may ask Minth to let it keep unused funds for future community programs; that isn't assumed.
  • Related-party contracts or overlapping roles are disclosed, independently reviewed, and approved in writing.
  • Reports show unique and repeat participants, sessions delivered, cancellations, assistance, feedback, unmet demand, spending, event revenue, and documented City contributions. Video views aren't counted as completed workouts.
  • Personal data is limited to enrollment, consent, safety, and reporting needs. Stories and photos need permission. Names, logos, signage, and announcements need partner approval.
